§ 51. Discourse on the Country of Burṭās [read: Bulghār!]
East and south of it are the Ghūz;
west of it, the river Ātil;
north of it, the Pecheneg country. The people are Muslims and have a particular
(khāṣṣa)
language. The king is called Mus (?). They own tents and felt-tents and
are divided into three hordes (gurūh):
*BARCHŪLA (spelt:
B.hḍwla),
ISHKIL (Ashgil? &c.), and B.LKĀR.
They are all at war with each other but if an enemy appears they become
reconciled (yār).
